The Microsoft Managed Languages team has been focused on rebuilding the VB and C# compilers and editing experiences as part of Project "Roslyn". This effort has paved the way for these languages to continue evolving for many years to come. However, what does that future actually look like? We explore the editing experience, how public APIs may be used to write language-level extensions, as well as new language features.
Containers, unless you haven't heard, are a big thing. Docker, who have a strategic partnership with Microsoft, makes it incredibly easy to create, deploy and run applications using containers. Cassandra, a distributed and highly scalable NoSQL database, is well suited for containers. DataStax provide enterprise grade Cassandra as a platform and Instaclustr provide fully managed Cassandra-as-a-Service on Azure. In this session you'll gain an overview of containers and Docker, Microsoft's support of open orchestration APIs and the integration of Docker Hub and Azure. We'll discuss the merits and benefits of containers and how you can provision Docker on Azure. Finally, we will discuss how Instaclustr have built an offering on Azure using Docker and modern Linux technologies including systemd and journald.
